Objectives

In order to be eligible for a financial contribution from the Embassy, the cultural project must havea recognisably Dutch component and a distinctly Dutch feel and take place in Slovakia. The basic principle is that the project can be used in support of Dutch foreign policy and to achieve a positive image of the Netherlands abroad. Projects should in principle be targeted at the local population.

Criteria

To qualify for financial support, projects could be required to meet the following criteria:

·               they must contribute to cultural cooperation between the Netherlands and the other country;

·               the application must come from a local organisation. The organisation will be responsible for managing and implementing the project (= the project

                applicant);

·               the quality of the local organisation and the Dutch counterpart must be adequate, with particular emphasis on their financial and staff capacity;

·               the cost-effect ratio must be acceptable (e.g. no travelling expenses for large groups to distant destinations);

·               the support must be essential for the project to take place (in other words, it should not be used to make a "profit";

·               the project should be implemented within the area served by the diplomatic mission;

·               the activity must not already have taken place. The Embassy prefers not to support the same artists more times.

Under these regulations, financial support can be provided to allow an event to take place, and may be spent on, for example: (international) travelling and transport expenses, accommodation, publicity, printing costs for catalogues and programmes, hire of venues and/or instruments.

Cultural cooperation entails an element of reciprocity. The Dutch counterpart of the project applicant should apply for a contribution  from the funds set up for the purpose in the Netherlands. The project applicant and/or the Dutch counterpart are in principle expected to make a reasonable contribution themselves.
